It’s time for school to start. Here’s a checklist for your child.

The start of a new school year is always exciting. New teachers, new classmates, new routines and new opportunities are just around the corner.
A little preparation can make the transition much easier for children and parents alike. Here are ten simple things families can do before the first day back at ILM Academy.
1. Get the sleep routine back on track
Summer schedules can quickly become more relaxed. Start moving bedtime and wake-up times back toward the school-day routine a few days before classes begin so the first morning is not such a shock.
2. Check uniforms and school clothes
Make sure everything still fits and that you have enough clean uniforms for the first week. Children have an impressive ability to grow several inches when nobody is looking.
3. Get school supplies ready
Check backpacks, lunch boxes, water bottles and classroom supplies. Labeling belongings now can save a lot of confusion later.
4. Talk about the year ahead
Ask your child what they are looking forward to and whether there is anything they are worried about. A simple conversation can help children feel much more comfortable about returning.
5. Start reading again
If reading has slipped during the summer, spend a little time reading together each day. It helps children get back into the rhythm of concentrating and learning.
6. Reintroduce some structure
Gradually bring back regular mealtimes, reading time, chores and other routines. Children generally adjust more easily when the first day of school is not the first structured day they have had all summer.
7. Practice the morning routine
Work backwards from the time you need to leave the house. Getting dressed, eating breakfast, packing bags and finding shoes invariably takes longer than expected.
8. Make space for schoolwork
Create a simple, quiet place at home where your child can read, complete homework and keep school materials organized. It does not need to be elaborate. Consistency is more important than the space itself.
9. Remind them what matters
A new school year is about more than grades. Talk about being kind, working hard, showing respect, helping others and having the confidence to ask questions when they need help.
These everyday values are an important part of how children learn and grow at ILM Academy.
10. Start with a positive attitude
Children take many of their cues from the adults around them. Showing enthusiasm about the new school year can help them approach it with confidence and excitement.
